![]() ![]() You can pack the Steam Deck in a bag, but it’s far too big to tuck into a jacket or comfortably play on the train. That's a bit surprising, since the Steam Deck and OLED Switch both have 7-inch screens. The Nintendo Switch with Joy-Cons attached is over two inches slimmer and half a pound lighter than the Steam Deck. A Big PortableĪt nearly a foot wide and weighing almost a pound and a half, the Steam Deck stands firmly on the unwieldy side of what you would consider a portable game system. Valve's handheld is a terrific device for taking your Steam library on the go, but the software still has some quirks that need to be addressed, especially if you want to go all-in on emulation and game mods. It has a reasonable $399 starting price, but we recommend spending the extra $130 for the mid-tier model that features four times the amount onboard storage (note that all three Steam Deck models house the same CPU, GPU, and RAM power only the display and storage type/capacity differ). So, even though we’re all dying to see what Valve has in store for Half-Life 3, Steam Deck is simply more important at this point in time and should, therefore, take precedence - hopefully not for too long, though. The Steam Deck is a lot of machine in a portable (albeit clunky) package. They only have one shot to make it right, and shipping the Steam Deck in a half-baked state could potentially have far-reaching consequences. So it should really come as no surprise that Valve is working around the clock to get it to perform as well as people expect. ![]() That’s the number one priority and, well, it’s easy to understand why: this peculiar-looking handheld machine has a metric ton of potential, and its incredible pre-order numbers attest to the fact. The reason why is quite simple: Valve is currently laser-focused on making the Steam Deck as polished and feature-rich as possible. This is also true for any potential follow-up to Valve’s VR masterpiece Alyx, so it’ll still be a few years (at least) before Half-Life fans have something concrete to sink their teeth into. By Petar Vukobrat in General | Nov, 30th 2021Īccording to well known Valve leaker Tyler McVicker, Half-Life 3 is neither in development nor is there a timeframe for its release. ![]()
